Colour  

Vivid colour, which began in the autumn/winter season in a small way, as Jellybean brights, is the most important trend. This newfound optimism swept away the typical ‘Belgian’ formula of selecting highlight brights to combine with reserved neutrals seen in previous seasons.
Although neutrals such as khaki, sand and stone are still important solids, it is very much the use of vibrant colours altogether, and sophisticated colour clashes which really move this season on.

Spiced orange and peachy pinks
This warm–toned story is widespread: glowing spiced oranges, cinnamon and paprika are layered with peachy pinks and ballet shoe pink for girls. This story has taken over from the more blue-toned lilacs and violets.

Vibrant green
One of the most directional groups of colours comes from the green family. Bright greens from bluish jade green to astro turf green are used tonally with lime or turquoise, or in contrast with an opposite like fifties pink. Bottle green also looks fresh, while olive and khaki continue for utility and workwear looks.

Pure white
Light and airy white is essential, as for any summer season. White is key for casual trousers not just Ceremony collections.

Sugar pink
There are many shades of pink from precious pale pink for new-borns, combined with grey or white, through to more sweetshop tones.

Grey
Grey has become a prominent neutral, in washed cottons and linen canvases. A popular unisex colour for newborn collections when combined with white or pale pink.

Fabrics
Natural fabrics continue to dominate, with cottons, linens, and silks important. One of the key fashion fabrics, an exception to the natural message at Belgium, is lightweight parachute silk, which is often seen in nylon mixes and other synthetics.
Laundering is essential to achieve comfortable, familiar and worn-in looks in crumpled linens, washed silk and vintage prints. Garment-dye was creatively used in many collections to achieve depth of colour and interest.

Utility fabrics such as twills, canvases, and ripstops are sanded and heavily washed. Linen makes up a large sector; and depending on the garment is lightly washed for relaxed, formal looks or ‘Ceremony’ collections; or more heavily treated, resin-coated and crumpled for casual shapes with pared down details.

The most popular wash is a straightforward vintage blue, alongside some very pale washes, grey washes, and black denim. Tobacco or dirty denim appears to be in decline, with more attention given to shape, and detailing such as pleating, zips, buttons, pockets, decorative stitching, buckles, straps and drawcords.
Luxury garments are made from silk in various forms. Crisp, taffeta silks provide the structure for many full, gathered prom skirts and dresses, or washed and floppy silks for relaxed, shabby chic.

Creased and crumpled, washed parachute silks or crispy nylons are used for unisex trousers and shorts, inspired by jump-suits and overalls.
Stretch terry towelling is always a soft option for younger kids, and looks fresh in perky colours and sporty separates at Ma Muse.
